About Us

Located on 36 beautiful acres of the former Astor family country estate in the Hudson Valley community of Rhinebeck, Ferncliff Nursing Home is truly home to its residents. Views from each of the 328 private or semi-private rooms reveal meticulously maintained grounds with acres of verdant lawns and mature stands of trees. While the landscape is very impressive, first-time visitors to Ferncliff are often most impressed by the staff’s true spirit of hospitality and the tremendous enthusiasm they show for their work.

Those who arrive at Ferncliff for long-term care or short-term rehabilitation soon discover the coffee shop, an important gathering place for residents, their families and their friends. Volunteers staff the gift shop, where residents can shop for cards and gifts or their favorite confection. Residents can dine in the main dining room, where they can exchange stories at tables accommodating two to four friends. A full schedule of recreational opportunities is available, and there are special programs designed for the bed-bound. In addition to its long-term care and short-term rehabilitation programs, Ferncliff also offers an Adult Day Health Care program to those needing assistance in maintaining their independence.

Opened in 1973, Ferncliff is served by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, a religious community nationally renowned for their compassionate care for the elderly. The Sisters’ mission is shared by both the professional and support staff at Ferncliff, who provide the best possible experience for the residents and their families through holistic care. They address not only the residents’ physical needs, but their social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs as well.
