About Us Kateri Residence is a Joint Commission accredited not-for-profit 520-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center located on Riverside Drive at 87th Street in Manhattan. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York assumed responsibility for operating the Home in 1981 and named it in memory of Kateri Tekakwitha, a caring 17th century American Indian who converted to Christianity. In 1980, 300 years after her death, Blessed Kateri was beatified by Pope John Paul II. Today, our dedicated clinical and support staff strives to fulfill the ideals of Blessed Kateri by providing loving care to all patients and residents in a manner that bespeaks respect, compassion, sensitivity and concern. Whether seeking short-term rehabilitation or long-term care, our patients and residents benefit from our philosophy of individualized care in a homelike setting. Those who require short-term rehabilitation are placed on one of our two 40-bed subacute care units. To accommodate a timely return of our subacute care patients to their homes in the community, we offer rehabilitation six days a week. This service is also available to our long-term care residents. Our long-term care residents also experience the benefit of a caring staff that recognizes that the care of our residents embraces their physical, social, emotional and spiritual well-being, as well as the preservation of their dignity.
